May 11 - 1894 - The Pullman Strike

The American Railway Union was unhappy with the way that their boss George Pullman had reduced wages from the Pullman Company. More problematically, he also had not reduced rents as their landlord in the company town of Pullman, Ill. When they decided to strke, they managed to shut down rail service in 27 states. Why did all of this happen?
