June 15 - 1878 - Photographer Eadweard Muybridge Captures a Horse in Motion
Eadweard Muybridge was one of the more innovative photographers of the late nineteenth century, and one of the strangest people. After a stagecoach accident, shooting his wife's lover, and getting away with that murder, he works for Leland Stanford to demonstrate that a horse lifts all four hooves off the ground when it is at a gallop. By setting up a complicated series of cameras, Muybridge pulls it off. Even more importantly, he helps to pioneer motion pictures.
