June 17 - 1939 - Eugen Weidmann is Publically Executed

Eugen Weidmann was a vicious serial killer, who had committed five murders in France in a matter of months, including the strangulation of a young New York dancer on vacation in Paris. This would have been enough to make Eugen Weidmann's case infamous in its own time, as it was. But after Weidmann is executed in public, the reaction to the spectacle is swift, making all public executions in France banned from that time forward.
