June 3 - 1943 - The Zoot Suit Riots

The Zoot Suit Riots were a large scale conflict between servicemen and Mexican-American youths in Los Angeles during World War II. What is most strange about the Zoot Suit Riots is that the general reaction by leaders was a bit muted and fractured. Generally, people were unsure what was happening when it happened, and then the riot fizzled out. The Zoot Suit Riots are still emblematic of Los Angeles' history.
