June 7 - 1900 - Carrie Nation First Destroys a Saloon in Kiowa, KS
There has never been anyone like Carrie Nation in American history. A hatchet wielding, saloon destroying temperance activist, she was just a poor wife and mother in the midwest until she got a religious vision. From that point forward, she made it her life's mission to go to as many places as possible to destroy liquor and bust up saloons with a hatchet. It made her nationally famous and a hero to temperance activists.
