June 9 - 1954 - Joseph Welch Calls Out Sen. Joseph McCarthy
Joseph McCarthy's anti-Communist rhetoric and hearings launched a meteoric rise to political stardom that made him the most famous Senator in America. After a series of ridiculous claims and political maneuvering, he was investigated himself in the Army-McCarthy Hearings, along with his Chief Counsel Roy Cohn. These would be McCarthy's downfall, culminating in the Army's outside Counsel Joseph Welch asking "Have you no decency, sir?" McCarthy's career would never be the same again.
