July 24 - 1959 - The Kitchen Debate

In 1959, the United States and the Soviet Union agreed to host exhibitions in the other nation, to demonstrate the prowess of each nation's technological advancements. At the American Exhibition in Moscow, U.S. Vice President Richard Nixon hosted Soviet Premier Nikita Kruschev, but while giving a tour, Nixon engaged him in an impromptu debate. As the majority of the debate took place in a model kitchen, it became known as the Kitchen Debate, and in retrospective is an amazing insight into the Cold War mind on both sides.
