July 27 - 1996 - The Bombing of the Centennial Olympic Park
During the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta, a homemade bomb went off, killing two people and injuring over 100 others. The initial investigation led basically nowhere except for putting scrutiny on Richard Jewell, a security guard who found the bomb. After Jewell was exonerated due to a lack of evidence, the only break authorities got were more bombings using similar style bombs. Eventually, Eric Rudolph would be charged with the bombings, but he also became a fugitive. Once Rudolph was captured, his reasoning for planting the bombs made everything even weirder.
