July 31 - 1556 - The Death of Ignatius of Loyola
Ignatius of Loyola was one of the founders and the first Superior General of the Society of Jesus, better known as the Jesuits. Ignatius was born into a minor noble family in the Basque country, and began his life as a soldier. Yet after an injury, he devoted his life to religious practices. Eventually, while a University student, he would help found the Jesusits and rejuvenate Catholicism. Ignatius of Loyola helped shape not only modern Catholicism, but the entire modern world. So it is most appropriate to remeber him on his feast day as Saint Ignatius.
