August 8 - 1963 - The Great Train Robbery
Its mastermind thought of it as "the Sistine Chapel ceiling" of heists, and the Great Train Robbery was a truly magnificent criminal act. Bruce Reynolds had developed a plan and assembled a gang with the intent of taking used banknotes from a mail train. Every element was plotted out carefully, from the farm used as a hideout to the way to move a train to the exact train to take for the maximum haul of cash. Although the group got the cash and took it home, everyone involved was identified by the police within a few months, but that did not end the story of The Great Train Robbery.
