September 4 - 1781 - The City of Los Angeles is Founded

Los Angeles is the second largest city in America and the media capital of the world, but when it was founded in 1781, it was just a tiny little village with the outsized name of El Pueblo de Nuestra Señora la Reina de los Ángeles del Río de Porciúncula. The 44 Pobladores were a mixed group racially that were not the elite of New Spain's society and from those founders, the city of Los Angeles barely grew for well over 100 years. It was only the transplant of the movie industry to Los Angeles in the early twentieth century that made the city boom, but that was only possible because Los Angeles was founded in 1781.
